Supermoon will rise tonight: Best areas in the country to view Supermoon 2013

This picture taken by myself  today in Selangor, Malaysia using Leica v-lux4 Camera at 20:14.

Today is a day of the Supermoon and while it is the same moon that you see from Earth most every night, there’s a reason that Saturday night into Sunday morning the moon is called the Supermoon. According to “Fox and Friends Weekend” on Saturday June 22, 2013, the moon is the closest to the Earth than it is all year round and it happens to be full.

The people living in Southern New England, the Desert Southwest and Lower Ohio Valley will have the most spectacular views of the Supermoon this weekend, according to USA Today. The moon appears about 14 percent larger during the Supermoon, as it is much closer to the Earth than usual, according to the Christian Science Monitor on June 22, 2013. The moon is full, bright and no matter where you live it’s an astronomical sight, unless of course your under a canopy of clouds.

This is a night to howl as the moon will be at its closest to the Earth on Saturday night into early Sunday morning. The moon will pass about 221,000 miles from the earth when the typical distance is about 238,000 miles. This is the time to view the Supermoon!

Supermoons look bigger and brighter when they occur when the moon is full. The Supermoon doesn’t always mean that the moon is full, but this weekend it is.

This Supermoon will offer a “king tide,” the extra-high tide that comes along with a Supermoon.

Notes : Supermoon: The moon will come within 222,000 miles of Earth and become a 'supermoon' (turn full) around 7:30 a.m.

  1. Just a further additional info...when the moon is at its nearest to the Earth, that phenomenon is also called "Perigee", if its the furthest, "Apogee"...
